A Lodge of Special Purpose
(in the Torbay fishing town where William Prince of Orange landed on the 5th November 1688)
The Lodge was formed on 3rd August 2025 and currently has over 220 members across the world.
Most of the members are from the British Isles but we also have members in USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Affiliated membership is open to any Brother or Sister who is currently in good standing within their own Private Lodge.

Membership Details
Membership is £30 to join for the first year, or £300 for Lifetime membership. The annual renewal this year is set at £10.
Members receive a unique neck jewel and certificate both bearing their own membership number………..as shown below.
The certificate is an old style one with woven ribbons through the paper with wax seal and bearing the Lodge Officer signatures. It is A3 size and suitable for framing.
The neck jewel is one of the nicest in Orangeism today and features the Prince of Orange coat of arms from when he landed in England in November 1688, which is slightly different from the coat of arms when he became King William III.
Communication with the membership is by regular newsletters sent out by email.
Three meetings are held annually, in the springtime, summertime and close to the anniversary date of the landings. The first two meetings are at the invite of Lodges elsewhere and the last is always in Brixham, Devon where the Prince of Orange landed.
Meetings will not always be in England and there are plans to hold a meeting in 2027 outside the English jurisdiction.
Meetings in 2026 were in Bootle, Merseyside in March, Liverpool in August and Brixham, Devon on 31st October.

Historical Background
There is historic precedent for the formation of a lodge in Brixham.
LOL 1690 Peter Varwell was formed on Monday 3rd August 1925. The Brethren from the Western Province and beyond, assembled in the Townhall in Brixham for the ceremony. The opening ceremony was conducted by Wor. Bro. Richard Rigg, Grand Master of England. Bro J.R. Robinson of Toronto was also present. Bro A.T. Harvey was installed as the first Master of LOL 1690 and the members included Rev. Dr. J. Appleyard, the Minister of Brixham Congregational Church. The Brethren paraded to the Prince of Orange Statue where a service and wreath laying ceremony took place.
At one point LOL 1690 Peter Varwell had well over fifty members. The Lodge held regular parades in the town.
At the 1926 Imperial Grand Orange Council held in London, the Grand President, Worthy Bro. Fred Dane said,
‘I am sure we were all delighted to know that an Orange Lodge was established at Brixham. This Lodge is on sacred and historic ground, and we hope it is there for all time to come. It was in England that the great struggle for Protestantism and liberty commenced in connection with William, Prince of Orange. It is therefore with deep gratification we see monuments in the shape of Orange Lodges being established to perpetuate historical spots.’
Sadly, the Lodge disappeared from the record books around the time of the Second World War.
